On National Ag Day today, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) celebrates the important contributions agriculture makes to the security and prosperity of America. NASDA is a proud partner of the 45th annual National Ag Day which aims to establish and enhance the understanding of how food, fiber and renewable resource products are made. American agriculture supports over 22 million jobs and exports over $130 billion per year to the global marketplace.

Dr. Barbara P. Glenn, NASDA’s Chief Executive Officer, underscored the contributions agriculture makes to society.

“NASDA Members advance the more than 2 million farms across the country, promoting the tireless work of those who provide us with food for life,” said Glenn. “For us, Ag Day is a time to appreciate the role farmers and ranchers play in providing safe, abundant and affordable food and contributing to job creation across the agriculture and food sectors. Ag Day is also a time for us to redouble our efforts to make sure we advance the next generation of America’s farmers and ranchers.”

Ag Day is also a day to underscore the importance of the Farm Bill and international trade agreements to the success of America’s farmers and ranchers.

“We’re excited about the opportunities ahead for agriculture and mindful of the challenges. We join with many others in Washington and across the country in highlighting the importance of passing an on-time Farm bill and opening doors to the international marketplace for our producers.”

NASDA represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories.  NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government, and stakeholders.
