Adrienne Kennedy never will forget when Hurricane Matthew struck in October of 2016. She was eventually forced to abandon the home she owned in south Lumberton. She remembers one day in particular. On that day, she joined a woman who was stepping through cold, fast-moving waters to go after her trapped relatives, a cousin and aunt.
