STANDOFF OVER HOG FARMS BEGINS: A courtroom showdown between a North Carolina hog farm and nearby residents kicked off on Tuesday in what will be a monthlong trial over allegations that the stench from industrial pig farming creates a nuisance (by a legal definition), Pro Ag’s Liz Crampton writes. In their opening arguments, attorneys from opposing sides disagreed over this question: How bad is it really for residents living near large-scale pig production farms?
