Many shoppers don’t realize that pesticide residues are common on conventionally grown produce – even after it is carefully washed or peeled. EWG’s analysis of tests by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that nearly 70 percent of samples of conventionally grown produce were contaminated with pesticide residues.The USDA tests found a total of 230 different pesticides and pesticide breakdown products on the thousands of produce samples analyzed.
