The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. on April 24 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Arlington, VA. The hearing concerns the recently proposed amendments to the 2015 regulations for disposal of coal combustion residuals, also known as CCR or coal ash, from electric utilities and independent power producers. EPA estimates this proposed rule would save the regulated community between $31 million and $100 million per year. The proposal includes more than a dozen changes to the 2015 final rule, which established minimum national standards regulating the location, design, and operation of existing and new coal ash landfills and surface impoundments at more than 400 coal-fired power plants nationwide.
