North Carolina April Farm Report

Sweet Potato growers intend to plant 85,000 acres in 2018, down 6% from last year.
Corn plantings are expected to total 900,000 acres in 2018, up 1% from 2017.
Peanut growers intend to plant 105,000 acres in 2018, down 12% from last year.

SOWS FARROWING
North Carolina producers intend to farrow 465,000 sows during the March–May and 470,000 during the June–August 2018 quarters.

PIG CROP
The State’s pig crop during the December 2017 – February 2018 period totaled 4.5 million head, unchanged from the same period last year.

PIGS PER LITTER
The number of pigs saved per litter averaged 9.9, which is unchanged from the 9.9 pigs saved during the same quarter last year.
