It’s been five years since the swine industry was rocked by the wide-reaching economic and emotional impact of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus. The outbreak was a wakeup call for producers, processors, regulators and consumers alike. Almost immediately, it shed light on crucial biosecurity and pathogen control vulnerabilities across the ag economy. What have we learned as a result? The root cause of the 2013 PEDV outbreak was researched and traced to a likely source.
