NC senators ask Trump to relax tariff on imported solar panels

Republican U.S. Sens. Thom Tillis and Richard Burr want President Trump’s administration to relax a recent tariff it imposed on solar panels. The 30 percent tariff on imported solar panels is intended to protect jobs at American solar panel manufacturing plants. But the North Carolina senators said in a May 9 letter to the administration that the tariff is harming other American companies that install utility-scale farms — and it is doing nothing to protect American jobs in that sector of the solar energy industry.
