What is lock out / tag out? A safety procedure that ensures machines are properly shut off and will not accidently start up again prior to the completion of maintenance or cleaning.

Tagged out is when a tag is connected to the lock on the power source or switch. The tag has the name of the person working on the equipment who locked it.

Only the person who applies the lock and tag can remove them.

Failure to lock out / tag out equipment can cause serious injury.

Proper employee training on lock out / tag out can prevent serious injuries.

Do not start equipment that has been locked out / tagged out, or remove tags not place by you.

If an accident occurs: call 911, administer first aid, meet the emergency services at the property entrance or nearest cross street, and have someone stay with the victim until help arrives.
