Why does Chemours want a groundwater standard for GenX?

Chemours has asked regulators to create a temporary groundwater standard as part of their response to a N.C. Department of Environmental Quality notice to alter the air permit for the company’s Fayetteville Works facility. Citing seven studies, a N.C. State University professor of environmental chemistry and toxicology who has contracted with Chemours said the interim maximum allowable concentration (IMAC) for GenX should be 70,000 parts per trillion -- not the 10 ppt limit cited in the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s notice to Chemours.
