One of the amendments the House considered to the Farm Bill would change the U.S. sugar program. The measure offered by Representative Virginia Foxx (R-VA) aims to modernize the program by removing barriers to domestic production and implementing market reforms. Leading the opposition to the amendment was fellow Republican and Agriculture Committee Chair Mike Conaway (TX). He said the current sugar program works and should be maintained.
