When June rolls around, North Carolina’s crops really start to rock. This is the time North Carolina becomes one of the most important produce providing states on the East Coast. G.W. Stanley, domestic marketing manager for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, said the department is working with retailers in North Carolina — both large chains and independents — to promote sweet potatoes, strawberries and blueberries. When summer vegetables like squash and green beans come along, the attention will shift to those.
