Board of Agriculture to meet May 31 in Raleigh

 The N.C. Board of Agriculture will meet Thursday, May 31, at 1:30 p.m. at the Martin Building, N.C. State Fairgrounds.
The board will take up the following items:
• Appoint Allen McLaurin to the Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation of North Carolina Board of Directors.
• Review requests for contract feeder exemptions from Butterball, LLC; N.G. Purvis Farms, Inc.; Talley Farms Feed Mill, Inc.; and Pilgrim’s Pride – Staley Feed Mill.
• Hear a request for joint rulemaking to amend a rule on importation requirements and repeal a rule on intrastate requirements for deer.
• Hear a request to initiate rulemaking to amend rules involving the Agronomic Services Division nematode advisory service, and amend four rules involving the Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund.
• Consider adopting by reference an amendment to two rules involving the Food and Drug Protection Division and Good Manufacturing Practices for Retail Food Establishments.

The Board of Agriculture is a policymaking body that adopts regulations for many of the programs administered by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Members are appointed by the governor. The commissioner of agriculture serves as chairman of the board.
