Sen. Chuck Grassley had some harsh words for House Ag Chairman Mike Conaway in response to Conaway saying earlier this week that Grassley is "wrong every single time" when he complains about loopholes in the process by which USDA makes subsidy payments to farmers.
I

CYMI, Grassley said this week that he will use the Senate farm bill to go after loopholes that non-farmers exploit to collect loads of subsidy cash from the government. The House version of the farm bill contains no limits on payments after Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows failed in his effort to promote an amendment to rein in how much USDA is authorized to grant to farmers coping with the slump in commodity prices.

In a three-tweet thread, Grassley said Conway should tell farmers why "I'm wrong about limiting farm subsidies to FARMERS not WALL ST BANKERS living high on the hog Farm subsidies meant as a safety net for farmers w dirt under their nails."
Grassley then encouraged the Freedom Caucus to vote against the House farm bill when it's reconsidered in coming weeks, saying that if the conservative coalition "believes in fiscal responsibility they shouldn't let a farm bill go through that gives unlimited subsidies to WALL ST BANKERS."

The Iowa Republican concluded his Twitter rant by tweeting that House Speaker Paul Ryan should start enacting his welfare agenda by reforming "corporate welfare for WALL ST BANKERS getting MILLIONS in subsidies meant for FARMERS who do the hard work in the fields feeding America & the world. Rich NYC bankers/millionaires don't need help."
