Gov. Roy Cooper visited storm-damaged areas in Polk, Rutherford and McDowell counties Thursday, following his State of Emergency declaration for the region. Cooper’s tour of the western counties began at 1 p.m. with a brief conference at the Polk County Emergency Operations Center in Columbus. “I think one of the challenges typically in Western North Carolina when it is so wet is there are so many places that face disaster, mudslides and rockslides,” said Cooper.
