Online whole animal butcher shop and delivery service Porter Road said it has secured $3.7 million in seed funding from multiple investors.

Chefs/butchers Chris Carter and James Peisker founded the company as a brick-and-mortar butcher shop in Nashville in 2011 and, after developing a cult following, launched the online business in February 2018.

Funding from Max Ventures, Slow Ventures, BoxGroup, Tribeca Venture Partners, Collaborative Fund, Great Oaks VC, among others, will help Porter Road expand operations and relationships with its farmer suppliers.

Porter Road said it works directly with local farmers in Kentucky and Tennessee to raise animals to strict specifications, processes the meats in the company’s own facility in Kentucky and ships directly to consumers in biodegradable packaging.

Lowest percentage of respondents reporting worsening financial conditions on farm since survey began in October 2015.
