A Chemours-contracted toxicologist has twice approached the N.C. Secretaries’ Science Advisory Board to ask for a significant increase to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ 140 parts per trillion health goal for GenX. In his most recent letter, in March, Damian Shea, an N.C. State University toxicologist contracted by Chemours, outlined the rationale for the agency to raise the health goal from its 140 ppt level to either 70,000 ppt or 233,300 ppt -- increases of, respectively, 500 or 1,666 times.
