In Chicago, Trump’s ag secretary says pain from China trade fight ‘a temporary situation’

There’s no end in sight for President Donald Trump’s trade dispute with China — a reality that worries many Illinois farmers who are already feeling the impact as soybean and corn prices fall. Illinois was the largest soybean-producing state last year, with more than $3 billion in exports. China was the largest export market for those soybeans. Beijing has threatened tariffs on U.S. soybeans, among hundreds of other American goods, in response to Trump’s announced duties on Chinese products. And in recent weeks, soybean prices have plummeted as a result.
