I’m Mary Walden with economist MW, welcoming you to the economic perspective. Today’s program asks if there is a budding rural renaissance occurring. Mike, one of the biggest issues in North Carolina – as well as in the nation – is the urban/rural divide. Large metropolitan areas have been growing much faster in population, jobs, and the overall economy than rural areas. In some cases, the economies of rural areas have shrunk. But I understand that based on some new demographic trends, there may be some improvement in these urban/rural economic differences. Please explain.
