Farmers across central North Carolina looked to the sky with joy Tuesday night. The downpours that left some without power and spurred flash floods are welcome in the fields, where the corn crop has been taking a hit from heat and dry conditions. Lisa Penny of Penny's Produce in Johnston County says the evidence of the recent lack of rain is clear. The outside of the ears of corn are not as green, and the fringe on top is dark brown.
