Bladenboro, N.C., officials this week upheld a $22,050 fine issued to local chicken processor Carroll Poultry for violating its wastewater permit, according to a report by the Bladen Journal newspaper.

Carroll Poultry, which opened last year and reportedly processes some 35,000 birds a week, had appealed the city board of commissioners’ decision in June to fine the company for excessive daily flow and waste totals, as well as inadequate record keeping.

It’s the third citation related to wastewater issues the company has received, the Bladen Journal reported.
