Rains take a toll on field crops

Farmers in Lenoir, Jones and surrounding counties are facing a bleak year after all of the rains the area has received from spring to summer. Jacob Morgan, Jones County cooperative extension director, said this could be a year that takes the ultimate toll on some farmers. The rains in April and May kept farmers out of the field when they were scheduled to start planting crops for the season, and now the continual rains are keeping them from harvesting, Morgan said.
