Weathering obstacles, apple growers report a good haul

After a year that began with unusually warm temperatures followed by a cold snap, record rains and spotty hail, Henderson County’s apple growers are reporting a good crop as the 72nd North Carolina Apple Festival gets ready to kick off the apple season. With the county’s wildly varying terrain, the weather tends to be equally variable. While some growers were hit hard by hail storms or inundated with feet of rainfall, some escaped without any damage. Overall, this year’s apple haul looks strong.
