NC House candidate to remain in race despite cancer diagnosis

 Sydney Batch, the Democratic candidate in state House District 37, said Monday that she will step back from her campaign for a few weeks after being diagnosed with early, non-invasive breast cancer, but she plans to remain in the race. "While this is a diagnosis no woman wants to receive, I consider myself fortunate. Because of my access to health insurance, I was diagnosed early," Batch said in a statement. "I will be able to take time off work and the campaign trail to recover.
