Memphis Meats vice president says traditional agriculture ‘required’ for success of lab-grown meat

Start-up company Memphis Meats says that in the future, consumer meat products won’t start in a pasture or a feedlot. Rather, they will start in its laboratories. The company has gained attention over the last two years by showcasing lab-grown poultry and meatballs, and it vows to have cost-competitive commercial products within 10 years. It has also made a splash by securing venture capital funding from meat industry giants Cargill and Tyson Foods.
