NCDA&CS is now accepting applications for the NC Organic Cost Share program. This year’s program will reimburse applicants for expenses incurred and paid between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018 towards obtaining or continuing organic certification. Covered expenses include application fees, inspection costs, travel costs for inspectors and sales assessments. Applicants need to submit a completed “State of North Carolina Substitute W-9” form. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 30. Information on the program can be found online. USDA is accepting applications for the Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Loan & Grant program to provide guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems (i.e., biomass, wind, solar, insulation, cooling or refrigeration units, replacement of energy-inefficient equipment) or to make energy efficiency improvements with a deadline of October 31,2018. Grants for up to 25% of total eligible project costs, and $20,000 or less are due no later than January 31, 2019. Loans provide guaranteed funding for up to 75% of total eligible project costs between $5,000 minimum to $25 million maximum are accepted year-round. USDA announced additional assistance for pecan growers to replant and replace trees through the Tree Assistance Program. Up to $15 million is available to eligible pecan orchards or pecan nursery tree growers for certain mortality losses suffered in 2017. To be eligible, the grower must have suffered a mortality loss on a stand in excess of 7.5 percent, but less than 15 percent, adjusted for normal mortality. Growers may also be eligible for other 2014 Farm Bill programs.
