White House chief usher Timothy Harleth, left, and superintendent of grounds Dale Haney, center, look at one of Avery County Christmas tree grower Larry Smith's, right, trees as they search for the perfect one to display in the Blue Room of the White House during an event at his Newland farm on Sept. 24, 2018. Smith was named this year's Grand Champion in the National Christmas Tree Association's Christmas tree contest and with the title comes the honor of presenting a tree to the White House.
