National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) President and New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte, along with NASDA CEO Dr. Barbara P. Glenn, attended the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange today with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.  Secretary Perdue invited several key guests to the closing bell including representatives from the National Pork Producers Council, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, National FFA Organization, and the president of the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Secretary Witte underscored the importance of the domestic and international marketplace to agriculture’s bottom line.

“For us, being here at the world’s largest stock exchange is a time to appreciate the role farmers and ranchers play not only in economic development and job creation across the agriculture and food sectors, but also the broader economic health of the United States,” said Witte. “We thank Secretary Perdue for the invitation and for our shared relationship and mutual support with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the viability of this critical sector of the American economy.”

NASDA represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories.  NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government, and stakeholders.
