Farmers face extreme crop loss from Hurricane Florence

Hurricane Florence left a wide swath of destruction across Eastern North Carolina’s farmlands, with a combination of wind, heavy rainfall and localized flooding devastating a large portion of the area’s unharvested crops. Mike Carroll, Craven County extension agent, estimated about 30 percent of the county’s unharvested corn and approximately 30-40 percent of unharvested tobacco was lost to the storm.
