ARE’s Department Extension Leader Nick Piggott and Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist Heidi Schweizer have compiled livestock loss estimates by species and aggregated the feed requirements to maintain the surviving livestock in Eastern North Carolina after Hurricane Florence.

They released livestock number and weight estimates to include daily feed grain needs by county.  Based on the feed grain estimates, they also calculated logistical needs including trucks and railcars (weekly) and ships (monthly) by county.  In addition to the excel spreadsheet, below are heat maps of feed grain needs and overlaid existing transportation infrastructure.
