The day after hurricane Florence hit Eastern North Carolina 40 migrant workers, who had been in Jones County picking tobacco, were left stranded after waking to flood waters rising to a level above the knees to waist high in their concrete housing facility. Emergency personnel tried to reach them after the workers called 911. During their attempt, even with a swift-water rescue team having difficulties getting through the quickly flooding county, the rescue was called off.
