NCDA&CS is now accepting applications for the N.C. Organic Cost Share program. This year’s program will reimburse applicants for expenses incurred and paid between Oct. 1, 2017, and Sept. 30, 2018, towards obtaining or continuing organic certification. Covered expenses include application fees, inspection costs, travel costs for inspectors and sales assessments. Applicants need to submit a completed “State of North Carolina Substitute W-9” form. The deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 30. Information on the program can be found online.

USDA is accepting applications for the Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Loan & Grant program to provide guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems (i.e., biomass, wind, solar, insulation, cooling or refrigeration units, replacement of energy-inefficient equipment) or to make energy efficiency improvements with a deadline of Oct. 31, 2018. Grants for up to 25 percent of total eligible project costs, and $20,000 or less are due no later than Jan. 31, 2019. Loans provide guaranteed funding for up to 75 percent of total eligible project costs between $5,000 minimum to $25 million maximum and are accepted year-round. USDA announced additional assistance for pecan growers to replant and replace trees through the Tree Assistance Program. Up to $15 million is available to eligible pecan orchards or pecan nursery tree growers for certain mortality losses suffered in 2017. To be eligible, the grower must have suffered a mortality loss on a stand between 7.5 and 15 percent, adjusted for normal mortality. Growers may also be eligible for other 2014 Farm Bill programs. Those who may be eligible should visit their local state or county FSA office. 

The NC Beehive Grant Fund will begin accepting grant applications Nov. 15 by any beekeeper certified by the N.C. State Beekeepers Association for the purchase and construction of beehives. Applicants may receive $200 per hive and up to $2,400 in total funding. Watch for upcoming announcement from the Rural Advancement Foundation International’s (RAFI) Agricultural Reinvestment Fund. The grant program assists entrepreneurial and innovative farmers and collaborative groups in developing new sources of agricultural income. Grants of up to $9,000 to individual farmers and up to $11,000 for collaborative farmer projects are awarded. Watch for grant announcement for WNC AgOptions Cost Share Grants to
protect mountain farmland by assisting the longevity of farm enterprises in Avery,
Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Clay, Cherokee, Cleveland, Eastern Band of
Cherokee Indians, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison,
McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga and Yancey
counties. Contact your local NC Cooperative Extension Agriculture Agent for
information.

Watch www.umo.edu/ag for UMO AgPrime grant announcement in early
November for new and innovative agricultural project ideas that will increase farm
profits in Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Craven, Columbus, Cumberland, Hoke,
Jones, Lee, Moore, Pender, Onslow, Richmond, Robeson and Scotland counties.

Program for N.C. farm operators who have innovative plans to diversify, expand or
implement new entrepreneurial plans in their operations in Duplin, Edgecombe,
Forsyth, Greene, Guilford, Harnett, Johnston, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, Pitt,
Rockingham, Sampson, Stokes, Surry, Wayne, Wilson and Yadkin counties. To
request an application form, email the program coordinator, Jackie Miller, at
Jackie_Miller@ncsu.edu with “NC AgVentures Application” in the subject line, your
