NC Farm School business training has returned in 2019 to Eastern North Carolina and has a new location in the upper piedmont of the state. Leigh Guth, Director of Pitt County, will be hosting the program in Greenville NC along with a cast of outstanding agents from the surrounding counties; and Paul Westfall, Director of Person County, will be kicking off a new location for NC Farm School with an all-star cast in Roxboro. Those joining the program in 2019 can expect the best that NC State Extension has to offer in business training.

Students will have the opportunity to develop a new farming enterprise based on the best fit for their goals utilizing the resources that NC Farm School has to offer. Brandon and Jaimie Smith of 2018 NC Farm School recently commented on the benefits gained from NCFS resources. “We used what we learned on budgets and costs to take a close look at the quality and cost of the feed we were using and found a better quality of feed at a better cost in larger containers.” In addition, students get a real sense of farming life during the program.

Students will meet farmers in the area on valuable field visits that allow a real look at what works and what doesn’t. Some of the most important benefits students receive are NC Farm School field days. Gerrit and Monika said in a recent interview, “visiting with farmers doing this for a living… the field days are the best; they are very helpful”.
