Upcoming swine floodplain buyout information sessions

Four information sessions are planned for producers interested in learning more about the latest round of swine floodplain buyout efforts. Below are the dates, times and locations of the upcoming sessions.

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has partnered with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services to provide a program to purchase permanent conservation easements on properties within the 100-year floodplain that are currently used for swine production. The program helps to reduce the potential for pollution from active animal operations by purchasing an owner’s certification to operate a feedlot within the 100-year floodplain.

The program began after Hurricane Floyd hit our state in 2000 and left many with flooding issues and damage.
