The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to purchase 2018 crop year sweet potatoes for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. The amount of the purchase was not announced in the Oct. 21 news release, and the USDA said the agency will reveal those details soon. Purchases will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Agricultural Adjustment Act, which helps grower prices by diverting commodities from normal channels of trade and commerce.
