Pittsburg, Texas-based Pilgrim's Pride announced that it will eliminate some 355 salaried and salaried non-exempt positions across the company's organization.

The eliminations are the result of the company's plan to reduce costs and operate more efficiently. The positions being cut will be divided among most of Pilgrim's three dozen locations.

The company is notifying affected employees this week.

"Our company and our industry are facing the toughest operating environment in decades, and it is absolutely critical for Pilgrim's Pride to continue to do everything we can to operate out business as efficiently as possible," the company said in a statement.
