Despite adverse weather conditions, the region is on track to produce more cotton bales than last year. Donald Smith, general manager of the Silver Lake Growers Cotton Gin, said the cotton crop started strong, but inclement weather will reduce production to near-average levels. “It was a real good crop, particularly considering all the dry weather and the wet weather and then of course, the storms that come through,” Smith said.
