Pro Ag's Liz Crampton reported Monday that farm bureaus in the top 10 ag states were spreading their campaign contributions between both parties — though the GOP received more. The nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign finance and lobbying, also dug into 2018 spending by agricultural groups and found that crop producers and processors were the biggest donors among ag sectors this election cycle. And Republicans, again, were favored.

"GOP donor support is high in part because major farming operations generally contribute to incumbent politicians in the agriculturally rich districts they are located in, which are represented mostly by Republicans," CRP wrote in its analysis of the spending data.

— Crop workers and PACs gave $14.5 million to Republicans this cycle and about $7 million to Democrats. The livestock sector donated $4.3 million to GOP candidates and $1.9 million to Democrats.

— Sugar cane and sugar beet groups came closest to sharing donations evenly between the two parties. They gave more than $3.4 million to the GOP and $2.8 million to Democrats.

— Dairy, tobacco, poultry and egg groups gave the least amount in political contributions. They each poured about $2 million to $3 million into campaigns ahead of today's elections, mostly for Republicans.
