U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx dominated the rural counties in North Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District and won her eighth term, beating Democratic challenger, D.D. Adams. Foxx, 75, of Banner Elk, was the overwhelming favorite to win the race. Her name recognition and fundraising muscle, which pulled in more than $2.1 million this election cycle, proved too much for Adams, 64, a three-term member of the Winston-Salem City Council.
