2019 Engenia® Herbicide Label Update November 2, 2018 

Valued Customer,

BASF is pleased to announce that Engenia® herbicide has received a two-year registration renewal from the EPA, and that Engenia herbicide will continue to be an effective and viable option for growers who wish to use the most flexible and advanced dicamba for their dicamba-tolerant crops. The revised label includes *Updated* instructions around existing requirements as well as *NEW* requirements. These updated and new requirements apply equally to all dicamba herbicides registered for use on dicamba-tolerant crops, including Xtendimax® and FeXapan®.

• *Updated* Dicamba-tolerant crop postemerge application window:

o DT Soybeans: Only apply from emergence through 45 days after planting or up until R1 (first bloom), whichever comes first.

o DT Cotton: Only apply from emergence through 60 days after planting or up until midbloom, whichever comes first.

• *NEW* Endangered species areas and corresponding buffer zones:

o Fields that exist in counties that may harbor endangered terrestrial dicot plant species will require a 110’ downwind buffer and a 57’ buffer on all other sides of the field.

o Endangered Species Protection Bulletins can be found at http://www.epa.gov/espp/.
o More details about the impacted counties will be provided in the coming days.

• *Updated* Total number of postemerge applications in DT cotton: o Only two postemerge applications can be made in cotton.

• *Updated* Certified applicator requirement as part of the RUP: o Only certified applicators may purchase and apply Engenia herbicide. Those operating under the supervision of a certified applicator may no longer purchase or apply.

• *Updated* Minimum spray volume is now 15 GPA.

• *Updated* Sensitive Areas, Sensitive Crops, and Residential Areas:

o Each of these areas is clearly distinguished in the label in association with downwind buffer requirements and wind conditions o “Sensitive Areas” are defined as bodies of water and non-residential, uncultivated areas that may harbor sensitive plant species. o ”Sensitive Crops” are defined as food, forage or other planting grown for sale, use or consumption.

• *Updated* “Residential Areas” are now combined with “Sensitive Crops”:

o DO NOT apply when wind is blowing in the direction of neighboring downwind sensitive crops or residential areas.

o Wind direction may vary during the application. If wind direction shifts such that the wind is blowing toward neighboring sensitive crops or residential areas, the applicator must cease the application.

• *Updated* Daytime application hours: o Applications can only be made from 1 hour after sunrise until 2 hours before sunset.

• *Updated* Record keeping requirements as part of the RUP:

o Records must be generated within 72 hours of application (previously 14 days).

o Planting date must also be recorded. o Buffer distance calculation must be included. • *Updated* 24-hour rainfall amount:

o DO NOT apply if expected rainfall amount may exceed soil field capacity and result in runoff in the next 24 hours.

• *Updated* Recommendation for spray solution pH: o It is recommended to test for spray solution pH and add a buffering agent if solution pH is less than 5.

• *Updated* Dicamba or auxin-specific applicator training requirement:

o All applicators are required to be trained annually.

o Like last year, States will determine how the annual training requirement will be met.
