Trade talks with the European Union do not include talk about agriculture right now. Discussions between U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and European Union Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström touched on several issues this week in Washington. The EU's Malmström making it clear expanding the discussions to include agriculture was a nonstarter. Malmström said quote, "I understand that it is still important from the U.S. side, but we have been very clear that it is not going to be in a trade agreement from our side." Malmström says trade talks should instead focus on industrials, rather than agriculture.
