COUNTY EXTENSION AGENT REPORTS Fields dried out enough for soybean harvest to resume for a few days. However, a lot of fields are still left to cut. Stephen Bishop – Cleveland SWCD
Weather conditions were very close to average for period with temperatures ranging from 20s to 50s and rainfall near .75". Frost and freeze in mornings with mild during day. Cool season grasses are still green with pastures looking good for livestock. Robert Hawk – Swain County Extension
Very wet unlikely more wheat will be planted. Most soybeans are still in the field. Gary Cross – Person County Extension
Wet conditions continue to slow harvest. Mostly what is left is soybeans, which are damaging due to the moist conditions. Don Nicholson – Agronomist Region 7
Extremely wet conditions still exist over the majority of the county. In the past 14 days, most areas have picked an additional 5-7 inches of rainfall. Tim Britton – Johnston County Extension
Continued rains delay cotton and soybean harvest. Quality for both degrading quickly. Mike Carroll - Craven County Extension
Near normal temperatures for the week with highs mainly in upper 50's -low 60's and lows mainly in the mid 20's. Light precipitation occurred several days with some wintery mix late in the week. There was some accumulating snow at the higher elevations. Precipitation levels varied across the county with most areas receiving between 1-1.5" for the week. Christmas tree harvest is in full swing. Other farm activities included tending livestock and winterizing equipment. Stanley Holloway – Yancey County Extension
