NC Farm School is a key resource for those who are seeking to keep land in farm production. For many people farming is a part of what drives them and this is important to Ken and Dennis Daniel.

Keeping the farm as a part of their family’s legacy is a key ingredient in their mission to start a farm business.

The Daniel farm has a longstanding family history that you can hear about as a part of a FOLKSTREAMS film project. They have a unique story that ties them to family and to the land. Ken Daniel said recently in an interview:

“Our father was very adamant about us getting an education to be able to do something better. And we did. But Farming has always been a part of what we do and who we are. It’s always been a big part of where we came from and how we got to where we are. I’ve always thought about doing what we are doing now but never thought about doing it on the scale that we’re doing now. Looking at it as a viable business, we felt like we needed to use the land, the resource that our grandparents worked so hard to get, and put it to use.”

The Daniels benefited greatly from NC Farm School to help them through the process of farm business feasibility. The brothers both affirmed:

“[NC]Farm School confirmed what we generally already knew, but it offered a non-biased opinion to tell us how to make our farm happen. It’s sensible, it’s practical and it’s doable. [The]Farm School is a validator. The extension agent stuff was a total bonus.”
