Rep. Patrick McHenry R-N.C., on Friday was elected to be the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee in the next Congress. McHenry’s election was expected. He was the second-ranking Republican on the committee while also serving as the Republican chief deputy whip in the House of Representatives, a position responsible for vote counting. After Republicans lost majority control of the House in midterm elections, McHenry opted for the ranking member position on the committee overseeing the financial industry.
