The deadline to apply for Florence disaster assistance has been extended six days to Dec. 19, and Gov. Roy Cooper is urging North Carolinians to seek aid. “We want to make sure that our hurricane survivors get the help they need to get their lives back on track,” said the governor. “I urge anyone impacted by Hurricane Florence to register with FEMA right away.” Hurricane Florence made landfall on Sept. 14 and has since caused billions of dollars of damage to local homes and business. In the aftermath of the storm, approximately 5,000 people were rescued from storm ravaged areas and 4,325 homes were destroyed in New Bern as of Sept. 24.
