His early days representing New Hanover County in the N.C. Senate are going to feel like when he left for college, N.C. Sen.-elect Harper Peterson said. “Obviously, I’ve served at the local level, but it’s a different environment,” said Peterson, a former Wilmington mayor and city council member who defeated N.C. Sen. Michael Lee, R-New Hanover, in November’s election. “So I’m a student right now. I’m back and forth to Raleigh just kind of learning the ropes.” That doesn’t mean the soon-to-be Democratic freshman senator doesn’t have a laundry list of issues he would like to address, including doing more to address emerging contaminants in the Cape Fear region’s drinking water, For more of this story, click here.
