Total frozen poultry supplies on Nov. 30 fell 13 percent from the previous month but were up 2 percent from a year ago, according to USDA’s latest Cold Storage report issued on Dec. 21.
Total stocks of chicken were down 1 percent from the previous month but up 4 percent from last year.
Total pounds of turkey in freezers were down 38 percent from last month and down 5 percent from Nov. 30, 2017.
Total red meat supplies in freezers were down 6 percent from the previous month but up 4 percent from last year.
Total pounds of beef in freezers were down slightly from the previous month but up 6 percent from last year.
Frozen pork supplies were down 11 percent from the previous month but up 1 percent from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 38 percent from last month and up 5 percent from last year.
“The data provides additional confirmation that consumer demand for meat is on a positive growth track,” analysts wrote in the Daily Livestock Report. “Inventories of most meats were either close to, or below expectations, implying favorable movement through marketing channels.”
