New laws in the New Year: March primaries, new judicial districts, no more soy ‘milk’

With the New Year come new laws. Legislation that takes effect Jan. 1 in North Carolina touches on issues ranging from the dates and boundaries affecting elections to the labeling of plant-based “milk” products. Here are some highlights from the 11 new state laws taking effect New Year’s Day. Jan. 1 sets the clock ticking on the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to come up with an enforcement plan “to prohibit the sale of plant-based products mislabeled as milk, such as soy milk and almond milk.”
