California, Mo.-based Burgers’ Smokehouse has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Clifty Farm Country Meats, headquartered in Paris, Tenn.  The combined companies would be the largest producer of country ham in the nation.

“The purchase of Clifty Farm fulfills a key strategic initiative to dramatically reduce risk by providing multiple locations for the production of country cured hams,” said Steven Burger, President of Burgers’ Smokehouse.  “Clifty Farm has been a tough competitor over many years and is a leading country ham brand in the grocery channel.  We now look forward to combining the strengths of our organizations to better serve the needs of our customers in all sales channels.”

The sale is expected to be complete in early 2019 and with that, Burgers’ Smokehouse will operate 5 plants across Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Burgers’ Smokehouse has been curing country hams for over 90 years, including whole, sliced, and cooked country hams for customers across the United States. The company additionally sells smoked & sugar-cured hams, dry cured bacon, smoked poultry, summer sausage, and over a dozen more specialty meat items to grocery stores, restaurants, and directly to consumers through mail order and e-commerce.
