For the third straight year, Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE:TSN) ranked No. 1 on Fortune magazine’s list of the World’s Most Admired Companies in the Food Production category.

To compile the rankings, corporate reputation and performance are measured against nine key attributes: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of products and services, and global competitiveness.

Tyson Foods ranked No. 1 in the Food Production category in seven of these key attributes. In the category, Archer Daniels Midland was ranked No. 2, followed by Wilmar International, Ingredion and Louis Dreyfus Company.

None of these food production companies, however, made it to the top 50 most admired companies across all industry categories, which was topped by Apple, followed by Amazon.

Food-related companies (consumer food products, retailers, foodservice) making the top 50 across all categories were Starbucks (#5), Costco (#12), Coca Cola (#15), Walmart (#25), Target (#32), McDonald’s (#37),  PepsiCo (#41), Publix Super Markets (#45) and Nestle (#47).

The annual survey, conducted by Fortune and Korn Ferry, is given to top executives, directors and financial analysts, to identify the companies that have the strongest reputations within their industries and across all industries.

To select the 50 All-Stars, Korn Ferry asked 3,750 executives, directors, and securities analysts who had responded to the industry surveys to select the 10 companies they admired most. They chose from a list made up of the companies that ranked in the top 25 percent in last year’s surveys, plus those that finished in the top 20 percent of their industry. Anyone could vote for any company in any industry.
